The latest study on car theft rates isn’t good news for New Yorkers

Car theft continues to rise across the country, and New York State is among the top 10 states in the United States for car theft.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the United States continues to experience near-record levels of vehicle theft. In the first six months of 2023, nearly 500,000 vehicles were reported stolen. That’s a lot of vehicles.

New York State is among the worst in the country for vehicle theft

During those six months, the institute reported that New York State ranked second when it came to a 20 percent increase in vehicle thefts, bested only by Illinois with a 38 percent increase in vehicle thefts.
