From the moment Jerry and Lisa Tanner walked through the front door of their Riverland home, they knew they had found their next renovation project.

Not only that, but the couple knew exactly how to transform the 1900-built Tudor duplex at 23 Fenwick Road, Bury, to ensure it stood out from the crowd.

“When we saw the place, what we loved about it was that it was a wood-frame Tudor with gorgeous columns…and we immediately knew it would respond well to a Hamptons-style renovation, which we love,” Tanner said. .

“From what we saw, it needed a good renovation and hadn’t been touched since the mid-1980s.

“The roof needed to be replaced, along with some other small work, but as it went on, we thought what the Riverland really needed was something a little fancier and more luxurious.

“So we basically gutted the main house and put in new roofs, new floors, new walls, new beams and really opened it up to include new plumbing and electrical.

“It was truly a million-dollar renovation…and the property also had an old barn that we renovated first and lived in while we built the main house.”

The renovations were officially completed last year and the property is now for sale.

Its price is expected to reach two million dollars, setting a new record for residential unit sales in Burri.

The current record holder is a four-bedroom house on Riverview Drive, which sold for $1.9 million in August of this year.

Mr Tanner said the home would suit a variety of buyers, with the main residence boasting four bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces.

Meanwhile, the self-contained barn, complete with two bedrooms and a kitchenette, could serve as a home office, a teen retreat, or an Airbnb, as it’s currently being used.

The property also includes a large in-ground swimming pool, tennis court and parking for up to seven cars.

“It’s a beautiful place but the truth is we don’t have the time we used to to go out and enjoy it,” he said.

“Our kids now live interstate, and we have a property on the Gold Coast, so we’d like to do something similar there now.”
