The first ever specials of celebrity Escape to the Country are set to arrive on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

BBC One and Naked West (a Fremantle company) today announced five special episodes of Celebrity Escape to the Country, a brand new spin-off series following the long-running success of the original Escape to the Country format.

The beloved house-hunting show is now dusted with stardust in a brand new 5 x 45 Celebrity Edition. Celebrity Escape to the Country welcomes an exciting line-up of famous faces hoping to move to the country including the country’s favorite panto dame and the King of the Jungle, Christopher Biggins; Pax Fizz pop star Cheryl Baker; TV health specialist, Dr Ranj Singh; Strictly Come Dancing’s Janet Manrara and Aljaz Škorjanek; and TV competition sensation, Jenny Ryan AKA ‘The Vixen’ from The Chase.

The BBC’s longest-running property show, Escape to the Country, first launched in 2002 and offered an idyllic look at Britain’s rural property market, giving urban homeowners an insight into future rural life. With the guidance of real estate experts, buyers decide whether or not to trade the hustle and bustle of the city for the slower tranquility of the countryside. Celebrity Escapes to the Country will see our celebrity house hunters exploring the tranquil landscapes and lifestyles of the Home Counties, Cheshire, Peak District, Lancashire, Kent and Sussex.

John Comerford, head of Naked West, says: “We love helping would-be country dwellers find their dream homes, and we’re thrilled that the BBC has commissioned us for this special series that gives us all an insight into the lives of our favorite celebrities as they look to swap a city for a new home in the country.”

Julie Shaw, commissioning editor at BBC Daytime and Factual, added: “Escape to the Country has been a staple of the BBC’s daytime schedule for 21 years. Audiences love the program and watch the journeys that house hunters take, so it was about “It’s time to go house hunting with some famous faces. “I can’t wait to get this on the schedules.”

The celebrity specials will air on BBC One and iPlayer in December.

Celebrity Escape to the Country has been commissioned for BBC One and iPlayer by Rob Unsworth, Head of Commissioning for BBC Daytime and Early Peak, and Commissioning Editor is Julie Shaw.
