The Dublin home listed for $3 million includes nearly 16,000 square feet
Homebuyers with a big budget now have a first-hand opportunity to live like custom home builders.
Longtime central Ohio builder and owner of Benco Custom Homes, Ajay Lal, is selling his Dublin home, which includes a two-story library and an entire apartment. Lal and his wife, Jackie, built the house for themselves in 2007 in the Tartan Fields West neighborhood.
“Jackie put her heart into designing the house,” said Rami Al Tamimi, the Coldwell Banker agent who listed the home for $3 million.
“The idea was to build something 7,000 or 8,000 square feet, then 10,000 square feet, and then ‘We want to do this, make that happen.’” They ended up expanding the house. Everything is big in the house, the closets, the kitchen, and the living spaces.”
The end result is 15,589 square feet of living space, including the finished basement.
Visitors enter a formal foyer with limestone floors. The foyer leads to a two-story great room and kitchen with a walk-in pantry featuring a full counter and two commercial-grade refrigerators.

A formal dining room, owners’ suite, screened porch, and a two-story family room with separate stairs to the second floor are also located on the first floor, along with a two-story, wood-paneled office and library with inlaid limestone floors. .
“The library is the focal point of the house,” Al Tamimi said. “It’s two stories, with great wood details. The space is amazing.”
Upstairs are three-bedroom suites, a sitting area overlooking the great room, a deck, a flex room now used as an office, and an apartment with a kitchen, living room and bedroom that has its own entrance through the garage, as well as access to the main house.
“It’s perfect for the in-laws, a babysitter, or a college student coming home,” Al Tamimi said.
The finished basement includes a home theater, wine cellar, rec room with kitchen and bar with access to the backyard.
The home includes a variety of technology features including geothermal heating and cooling, LED lighting, remote-controlled window blinds, a central vacuum, and a chandelier that goes down to clean and replace bulbs.

The rear includes a multi-level terrace with a fireplace and built-in barbecue. The courtyard is largely private, but just to make sure the house next door wouldn’t compromise the view, Lal built it himself.
