An incredibly large River Oaks mansion steeped in high-society drama went on the market this week, surpassing the listing price of any other home on the market in the neighborhood.

In fact, if 3630 Willowick sells for what the owner is asking — $29 million — it would become the most expensive deal in the history of Houston’s Multiple Listing Service (which excludes off-market deals), breaking the record set last year by 100 Carnarvon Drive.

“There is an incredible level of detail that has gone into almost every aspect,” Solar added.

The Willwick property has been owned by the same family for almost decades. The home’s current owner is Lori Krohn Sarofim, the daughter of Houston oilman and racing enthusiast Tracy Krohn and his then-wife, Susan, who bought the home in 2005, according to real estate records. Susan Krohn, once chosen by the Houston Chronicle as Woman of the Year, married Houston billionaire investor and philanthropist Faiz Sarofim around 2015 — but not until after Lori Kron had already married Faiz’s son, Philip Sarofim. This unusual arrangement, widely reported at the time, made the older couple the stepfather and the younger in-laws.

Lowry and Philip Sarofim later separated (he reportedly dated Avril Lavigne), but the house remained in the family.

The dining room, for example, with its elaborately hand-painted ceilings includes Baccarat sconces and an antique Parisian fireplace. The kitchen contains not one, but two Subzero refrigerators and a rotisserie oven; The palm-themed breakfast nook’s walls are hand-painted. There is, of course, also a gym and a wine room that holds hundreds of bottles.

The outside space is also impressive. The property sits on approximately 1.6 acres of land backing the River Oaks Country Club Golf Course, and the grounds include a fountain imported from Europe, gardens, a koi pond, a covered patio, entertaining areas, and a pool with a waterfall. It can be hot or chilled.

Why would anyone want to give up such possessions? Maybe to spend some time with other properties. Lori Krohn Sarofim is now selling it to “travel more and spend time in other residences,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
