St Albans: Plan to demolish and replace Jennings Road house
The application submitted to St Albans City and District Council’s planning committee on November 6 will see 71 Jennings Road replaced with a new development.
The new five-bedroom house will have three bedrooms on the first floor and two upstairs.
The driveway will be modified to allow for two parking spaces, and a cozy entrance hall and formal sitting room with new fireplace will be featured on the ground floor.
The design and access statement accompanying the application said: “The new development will be more sustainable; meet the high energy efficiency requirements for new buildings, future-proofing the property in the long term.
“The new residence makes the most of the opportunities of the site; it showcases the details of a beautiful home that meets the needs of a modern family.”
Regarding the appropriate design for other properties on the road, the statement continues: “The proposal aims to develop a new property that will enhance and create a modern family home that promotes better living, while remaining sensitive to the character, form, scale and material palette of the original house and the neighboring context in which it is situated.
“The new development is in keeping with similar properties on Jennings Road, and we have ensured that the proposal is suitable for the surrounding area, while meeting the criteria set by St Albans.
“The proposal will upgrade and improve the quality, practicality, comfort, energy and appearance of the property through thoughtful design, careful detailing and the use of high-quality building materials.
“By improving the lighting, energy and functionality of the home, the design will transform the property into a suitable, sustainable family home.”
No objections to the request have been submitted so far.
