This nearly 3-acre brick and stone estate in the affluent gated community of Stonebridge looks like it belongs in a fairy tale, though it still boasts sophisticated amenities like a guest house, pool, and spa.
The English Tudor-style home was designed by Dina Gillespie, a well-known local architect, said listing agent Monica Sylvester of Willis Allen Real Estate. The house has five fireplaces, a fire pit, a pizza oven and an orchard with 190 lemon trees as well as apple, plum and peach trees.

“It’s a really special and special property because it has a refreshing architectural style that you don’t see very often in Rancho Santa Fe.”

“It’s full of charm and character,” she said. “When you walk through the portal, it feels like it’s been ripped from the pages of a storybook.”
“It has a dreamy balcony with ocean views,” winding walkways and stone patios lined with rose, hydrangea and lavender gardens, she said. “It has a warm, narrative feel that makes it timeless and classic.”
The house was custom-built in 1991 for the sellers, Sylvester said. “They raised their families here.”
Architectural details include bay windows, vaulted wood-beam ceilings, hardwood floors, arched windows and doorways, and three fireplaces, one of which has a hand-carved mantel.
Through the leaded-glass front doors, you enter a two-story foyer with a wide staircase leading to the upstairs master bedroom suite, Sylvester said. It includes a separate office with built-in cubicles, a large wardrobe and an en suite bathroom surrounded by leaded glass windows.

The main floor contains formal living and dining rooms, a butler’s pantry, a kitchen with open views of the pool and backyard, and a family room that opens to a covered patio, according to the listing. The children’s wing has three bedrooms and an additional room.
“One of my favorite parts of the house is the backyard,” Sylvester said, which has a pool with beach access, a whimsical outdoor shower hidden from view, and an outdoor pavilion with a fireplace, gas heaters and seating for 12 people. There is a second outdoor fireplace as well as a fire pit and pizza oven.
This detached one-bedroom guest house has its own address and features a living room, a kitchenette and a balcony.
The property has great west-facing views of the Pacific Ocean, Sylvester said. “You can get amazing sunsets every night.”

Neighborhood notes
Stonebridge has only 24 homes and is located on the west side of the San Diego County community of Rancho Santa Fe. “You have easy access to freeways, shopping and dining. It’s a great location. It’s 2 miles from the ocean and 25 minutes from the San Diego airport.”
Rancho Santa Fe is a “hidden piece of paradise that no one knows about,” she said. “That’s part of the appeal. It’s an upscale place to live, good weather all year round and great public schools. Everything is underrated.”
