Log Cabin Days – Ohio Ag Net
Shorter days, cooler temperatures and sweet cider usher in the fall season, and with it the Log Cabin Days. Join in the family-friendly fun on Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16th. Proceeds from this event go to the American Cancer Society and Mohican Diocesan School. The location is 552 SR 95, Loudonville, OH 44842.
This family-oriented, two-day event has something for everyone and will also include demonstrations of lumberjack skills, ax throwing, wood chopping, cross sawing, and 19th century home-related trades such as hand-cutting, woodcarving, and furniture. making and building weapons, spinning and braiding carpets.
Many of the activities will encourage audience participation as well as present a range of distinguished speakers at the seminars. There will be more than 40 booth fairs featuring rustic home furnishers, builders, craftsmen, and presenters of household items. Held Friday at 3 p.m., an auction of rustic and cabin furnishings is held with three prefabricated cabins, three suites, and many handcrafted items including bedroom suites, coffee tables, dining tables, end tables, home decor, and an Amish-made table. Log cabin quilts, all of which are quality shipments from local artisans. Bring a truck or trailer to bring the winnings home.
For those interested in building their own dream home, the highlight will be the log house tour, where visitors can pass through up to nine log homes and discover the relaxed, casual lifestyle that defines log home life. This self-guided tour is available for a donation of $25 per person to support the American Cancer Society
There will be webinars going on Friday and Saturday that include: Log Basics 101, What You Need to Know to Get Started Building Your Log Home, Home Design, Home Financing, and Finding Land. These seminars cover nearly every aspect of planning and building log homes and are included with the $5 event admission fee (kids 12 and under are free).
For children, the petting zoo provides an opportunity to interact with ponies, calves, puppies, rabbits and kittens. Or they can play a game of “gold pan,” sifting through the sawdust to find trinkets and coins, or take their first pony ride. If that’s not enough, there are also comfortable covered buggy rides through the forest.
The food tent will feature authentic old-fashioned rotisserie chicken, noodles, potato salad, baked beans, and an assortment of pies. There will also be homemade ice cream, fried waffles, fresh apple juice, apple butter, and kettle-cooked popcorn to work up the appetite. And be sure to try the Log Cabin Burger. No one should leave hungry!
