Karen M. Karrenbauer, 82, of New Castle, died the afternoon of Nov. 16, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
She was born October 4, 1941, in New Castle, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel L. (Hawk) Man.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, George Karrenbauer, whom she married on May 16, 1964.
After graduating from Shenango High School in 1959, Karen earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock State College.
She worked for the New Castle School District most of her life until she took a teaching job at New Castle Christian Academy, where she remained until her retirement.
Karen was a member of PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization, Chapter A.
She enjoyed traveling and playing games with her family, but her greatest joy was the time spent with family and friends.
Karen was a member of Savannah United Methodist Church, active in the 55+ choir and United Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Dana (Rhett) Keefer of Grove City and Dawn (Lee) Harris of Lowellville, Ohio; one son, Todd (Ann) Karrenbauer of Sharon; one sister, Barbara Galida of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Rhett (Brittany) Kiefer Jr., Ross Kiefer (fiancée Lauren Dietz), Ashley (Jacob) Cavanagh, Jacob Karrenbauer, Riley (Alexus) Kiefer, Ethan Harris and Brandon Harris; and one grandson, Reid Kiefer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janet Perry.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, November 20, at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Savannah United Methodist Church, 84 Savannah-Gardner Road, New Castle. The Rev. Adam Goswick and the Rev. Mark Goswick will officiate.
Burial will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery in Ellwood.
