For the first time in years — since the Tiny Living pack, probably — the Sims 4 expansion feels real to Construction mode girls. There’s plenty of live mode gameplay coming in the For Rent expansion too, with tenant revolts, deadly mold and the questionable possibility of becoming a sim landlord. But for now, we’re stuck in the Proactive Creativity portion of the Sims DLC cycle, which means everyone is sharing beautiful home designs that I’ll be removing from the gallery immediately.
Maxis showed off a new trailer for the For Rent expansion yesterday, showing off how easy it is to split pieces. Clicking on any specific room in the building will give you a drop-down menu to indicate which unit on the lot it belongs to or whether it’s a shared space. A new tab in the Quantity Information menu will display information about the cost and dimensions of each unit. The different plot management menu will allow you to set rules for tenants such as “no loud noise”, maximum occupancy or lease length.
There’s details about late rent, oh my god, stealing tenants’ stuff as compensation? I will get over this easily because I know myself and I will touch live mode for about 20 minutes after launching it and it will never happen again. That’s why I’m obsessed with the designs everyone posts.
The first inclination of many people (myself included) is to create a nice row of townhouses. There’s something very alluring about a tour booked by two others with mismatched facades. It is the heart of the urban shack. She’s Gossip Girl. Anyway, Sims players are posting some pretty cool house designs (below), some created after the rental announcement and others, like mine, that have been sitting sadly in save files for years.

But it doesn’t end at homes. The creative juices are already flowing beyond this endeavor, as seen in this adorable little village by MalinDesigns.
Finally, this village can be used. It has 7 bedrooms and was built with the Cottage Living package and the base game on a 64 x 64 lot 🤣 Gallery ID: MalinDesigns Lot Name: Olde Mill Village @SimsCreatorsCom #sims4 @TheSims @TheSimCommunity @EA #ShowUsYourBuilds pic.twitter.com/bn24Xf0LRANovember 17, 2023
I don’t know if multi-family homes on For Rent will be quite as widespread as they are The little houses that everyone was building After the Tiny Living expansion, but I’m really looking forward to the exotic settings people dream up after we move on from dreams of traditional homes. I know for a fact that I have a friend who actually works in a trailer park as well, and I’m sure many other styles of multi-family properties from around the world will start popping up across social media.
The For Rent expansion will launch on December 7 for $40.
