“I refuse to leave my children at my mother-in-law’s house because she has a dangerous dog breed” – World News
One mother said she had “safety concerns” about leaving her one-year-old son at her mother-in-law’s house because the woman owned a dog that could pose a danger to her child.
A worried mother said she has banned her mother-in-law from babysitting her one-year-old son because she doesn’t feel safe leaving the child at the woman’s home – because she owns a Pit Bull dog that could be dangerous. The mother explained that the dog is never separated from her son when he visits his grandmother’s house, and that she is concerned that leaving her son alone with the dog could result in her child being seriously injured.
The mother shared her concerns in an online post where she did not specify which country she was from. However, Pit Bulls are one of four breeds of dogs banned in the UK under the Dangerous Dogs Act alongside the Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila. Brazil, where Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the US XL Bully will be banned by the end of the year. This means that it is illegal to own, breed or sell Pit Bulls in the UK unless you have a court exemption, in which case you will need to follow strict rules such as keeping your dog muzzled in public.
In a post on Reddit, the mother said: “I feel so angry inside that my mother-in-law refuses to acknowledge my safety concerns about leaving my 1-year-old son at her house when they let their Pit Bull loose and went outside.” “I’m not separated from my son. I stopped letting her watch him and my husband and I have our regular three-hour appointment once a week because my son’s life and safety are more important to me.”
She added that she had owned a Pit Bull herself in the past but wouldn’t let her roam freely with a baby or toddler in the house, because she knew how dangerous she could be. But her mother-in-law doesn’t feel the same way, insisting her dog has “never been aggressive,” so she doesn’t see the problem.
The mother continued: “Keep in mind I had one in the past, but I would never leave her around a baby or toddler ever. She constantly says things that make us feel guilty, and her husband is angry with us.” , she claims that the behavior that pitbulls display around him is due to “excitement” and that they are “never aggressive.” Well, many other cases of pit bulls biting and even killing babies have come from FAMILY PETS who have never shown any prior signs of aggression!”
Commenters on the post defended the mother’s decision to keep her child away from her mother-in-law’s home, saying that they had faced similar problems with their family members. One said: “My MIL had an aggressive border collie. I didn’t let her babysit my kids until the dog died because she didn’t take my concerns seriously. The dog ended up biting my nephew (he’s fine),” while another added: “Your duty first and foremost “It’s something about your daughter. She can get over it or not find herself spending time with her grandchild.”
