The number of people who have died from Covid-19 in the UK has been displayed on the walls of Barnard Castle – the night before Dominic Cummings is set to give evidence to the official inquiry into the virus and how the UK Government has dealt with it.

During his questioning by the inquiry, messages emerged that showed current civil service head Simon Case saying Johnson was unfit to lead due to his constant change of direction.

Mr. Case also claimed that government “isn’t actually that difficult, but this guy is Which makes it impossible“.

He is due to give evidence himself at some point, and is currently on medical leave from his role in Number 10.

Reynolds – who invited Downing Street staff to a ‘bring your own booze’ party – was only supposed to spend part of the evidence session on Monday morning before the inquiry, but ended up being invited until after lunch.

As such, former Downing Street communications director Lee Cain has been told he will not be heard on Monday and will instead speak on Tuesday morning.
