Chelsea De Boer: The HGTV personality and co-founder of Aubree Says has an enviable resume in the design world — so when she shares decorating lessons, we take notice.
the Down Home Fab The star, whose brand is known for its everyday home products, recently sat down H&G, Naturally, the conversation quickly turned to the amazing decorative power of accessories.
“With my brand, Aubrey Says, I wanted to focus on everyday household products, where they can be both a building point and a finishing point,” says Chelsea. In many ways, this rewrites home decor conventions that suggest accessories should be one of the last things to consider when designing a space.
Although these items may be smaller and traditionally less robust than items like new flooring or paint, Chelsea says we can use these products to form the “base of the room” and decorate around it.

“You can throw on your blanket and get some nice candles and build from there,” she explains. “Alternatively, you can use them in finishing steps or as filler elements that allow the room to come together.”
Chelsea De Boer is an entrepreneur, social media expert, and co-founder of Aubree Says. Aubree Says, founded in early 2021, offers a range of high-quality, affordable everyday home products, including blankets, candles, baby accessories, housewares and kitchenware. Chelsea also stars alongside her husband Cole on the HGTV series Down Home Fab, which is currently filming season two.
Whether we’re working with accessories or embarking on a full-scale renovation, Chelsea adds that we should always focus less on following trends—and more on creating a home that feels like our own. This could be a case of decorating with antiques or painting in a color that pleases us personally, regardless of what others say.
‘How do you want to feel in your own space? It’s about finding objects, elements and finishes that give you that feeling. “It’s really that simple,” she says. While large-scale redesigns often come with some reservations, Chelsea urges us that it’s often not as complicated as people think. In some cases, we may find it fun.
‘The remodeling process is often not as complicated as people think. When we started building our house, everyone we spoke to wished us good luck, but we really enjoyed the process because we made it fun.’
