Auctioneer Angus Ashworth loves mingling with ordinary people as he helps them sell their family heirlooms.

But it’s even more fun for him when his clients are famous names taking part in a new TV series that takes place behind the scenes at an auction house.

Among the people he helps declutter are Anthea Turner, Simon Gregson, Laurence Llewellyn Bowen, Chrissy Rock and Fraser Hines. He also meets Jenny Powell, Amanda Barrie, Tim Vincent, Dom Joly and Lizzy Cundy on Real, starting tonight (November 13) at 9pm.

“People love the show,” he said. “It’s something everyone has to go through, like selling items after clearing the house for example. And the fact that these are famous names makes it even more special.”

He particularly enjoyed a visit to designer Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen’s 15th-century Cotswolds home which was “something really special” but for him the best guest was Amanda Barry. Now 88, he is a former Coronation Street and Carry On star.

“She was fantastic and had a good eye for selling,” Mr Ashworth said. She was a small trader in her younger days. When she was acting in London, she would take time out to set up a stall in Camden. She definitely knows a thing or two and has made more money than anyone else on the show.

He says his role in the show is to help famous and beloved faces clean their homes, and search through closets and closets for forgotten heirlooms and show business memorabilia. After visiting them in their fashionable Manchester homes, stately Cotswold mansions and rundown Welsh farmhouses, he returns to the headquarters in Kirkbymoorside, with his van full of VIP goodies.

There, he is pressured to utilize all his knowledge and experience to keep his star-studded clients happy and earn them lots of money for a range of personal endeavors.

Can he find bidders for Houdini’s magic bag, a mammoth tusk, an expensive pebble from the Coronation Street collection, and a doodle that might be from a world-famous artist? Once these and many more wild and wonderful things pass under his hammer, will his celebrity clients leave happy?

Tonight’s show kicks off with Anthea Turner and another former Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson.

Mrs Turner enlists Angus to help her 90-year-old father slim down. Her mother died last year and her father decided to move from Stoke-on-Trent to be closer to his daughters in London.

However, Mrs. Turner struggles to let go of a cherished family heirloom. And Coronation Street veteran Simon Gregson – who plays Steve Macdonald – has a house in Cheshire full of strange ‘stuff’, from arcade machines and fossils to vintage liquor and go-karts!

Yorkshire Celebrity Auction House is on Real (Freeview channel 17), tonight at 9pm.
