Company overview

Type Five is a housing company that builds and designs exceptional homes. We simplify the difficult parts of homebuilding so we can focus on what matters most: seamless process, thoughtful design, and quality craftsmanship.

We’re building a home building operating system that combines our modular design system with software to build homes faster and more economically. We believe that standardizing how every home is designed and built opens the door for more people to have living spaces that meet their unique needs.

We are at the beginning of our journey, but have raised $2.3 million from industry-leading investors and operators. We look forward to growing our small but mighty team with creative, entrepreneurial, mission-driven, and relentlessly motivated people who can help us build home for the next generation of owners.

About the role

As a Permitting Engineer, you will work closely with our Head of Design to draft detailed plans and permits for our projects. You will manage the permitting process for multiple projects from drafting to submission to review and resubmission. You will also work with our software and BIM team to speed up how permits are compiled and submitted in a way that requires less manual overhead.

We are looking for someone who is a creative problem-solver, independent and curious to expand skill sets in software-driven parametric design.

Required skills and experience:

  • – Degree in architecture from an accredited university

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in design through the construction documentation phases, with a focus on preparing construction documents and permitting submissions

  • Deep working knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Experience with Revit

Bonus points:

  • Experience with rhinoceros and grasshopper

  • Architectural licensing

  • Previous experience filing permits and working with various building departments in the East Bay: Berkeley, Oakland, Orinda, Alameda, El Cerrito, etc.

benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity

  • Complete health, teeth and vision

  • Flexible PTO (minimum 2 weeks required) + vacations

  • Flexible working hours
