An American man is accused of murder in an attack near a German castle

An American man has been charged in Germany with murder, rape and other charges after he pushed two American tourists into a 165-foot-deep ravine near a make-believe castle, killing one of them, prosecutors said.

The 31-year-old suspect, previously identified as Troy Bohling, of Michigan, has been charged in the German state court in Kempten, which will decide if and when the case goes to trial.

The police have not officially announced the name of the suspect in the murder, according to German privacy laws.

The indictment against Bohling includes charges of murder, rape with fatal consequences, attempted murder and possession of child pornography.

If convicted of the major charge, Bohling could face life in prison.

Bohling was accused of luring two tourists he met by chance on a walking trail near the Mariensbr├╝cke Bridge on June 14, with the promise of a “romantic” view of the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle.

The Michigan native allegedly forced 21-year-old Eva Liu to the ground and tried to strip her naked.

When Liu's girlfriend, Kelsey Chang, 22, tried to intervene, prosecutors said Boehling pushed her down a 165-foot ravine.

Prosecutors said Bohling then strangled Liu until she was unconscious and raped her, before pushing her down the steep slope as well. The recent college graduate from Naperville, Illinois, later died from her injuries.

Prosecutors said they confiscated Bohling's laptop and cellphones, which were found to contain child pornography.

Boehling lived in the Detroit suburb of Lincoln Park with his brother, according to records.

A neighbor previously told the Daily Mail that Boehling would “never look you in the eye when he comes and goes”.
