Lance, 23, was a prospect out of North Dakota State who was selected third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Injuries and inconsistent play limited him to just eight games with the Niners over two seasons. In training camp, the team made a bold decision to move away from the previously heralded quarterback position. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he was installed as a third-string quarterback.
