A shooting outside a 2-year-old girl’s Binghamton birthday party
Binghamton police are searching for a man who fired several shots in an American Legion parking lot where a young girl’s birthday party was being held.
The shooting happened shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 80 at 76 Main Street.
Five 9mm shell casings were found in the parking lot at Main and Walnut streets, police said.
According to investigators, a black man wearing a blue tracksuit fired several shots at a group outside the American Legion building. Before they fled the area, two of the men who were shot were seen carrying pistols. No injuries were reported.
The shooting broke out while a birthday party was being held for a 2-year-old girl on the second floor of the American Legion. About 10 children and 10 adults were at the gathering.
The man who fired the shots was sitting in a car in the parking lot before he got out of the car. A person familiar with the incident said he pulled out a gun and began shooting at the group of men.
The shooter was chased from the scene. Police towed the car he left in the parking lot.
After the shooting outside, there was “a lot of screaming and yelling inside” among people who were at the birthday party, according to the person familiar with what happened.
Investigators have not revealed the name of the suspect or a possible motive for the shooting.
The shooting occurred five years to the day that 27-year-old Daquan Dickerson was killed in a drive-by shooting near the American Legion building.
