A Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home in Happy Valley is on the market for the first time with an asking price of $6 million
A sprawling contemporary residence, the largest home for sale in Happy Valley, is on the market for the first time since it was built 12 years ago. There are nearly 14,000 square feet of living space for a multi-generational family to spread out, and entertainment areas extend from the downstairs home theater to two outdoor kitchens.
The 2.2-acre gated property is listed at 11400 SE 147th Ave. Priced at $5,995,000 by Thomas Cale with Justin Krug of Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty. The price includes almost all the furniture and artwork in the three-story house.
When designing the custom home, Michael Barclay of Barclay Home Design in Clackamas was guided by the horizontal planes, wide cornices, and ornate, restrained ornamentation of the prairie style made famous by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who connected the homes’ natural elements to their environment.
Here, rows of windows frame Mount Hood and other views, stone is seen on the exterior and interior walls and fireplaces, and boulders are used as decorative elements in the stairway and wine cave areas. Doors and millwork are made of Sapele hardwood.
Walk through the covered entryway into the two-story foyer then into the great room and into the gourmet kitchen which has a hidden bath area. The master suite occupies its own suite on the main floor. There are two water closets, a steam shower, a bathtub, a walk-in closet and a sink. Balcony overlooking the backyard landscape.
Wide stairs and an elevator reach the second floor, which includes five bedrooms. In addition to the home theater, the lower level contains a guest suite, wet bar and exercise space.
Outside, two outdoor living areas are equipped with kitchens, TV screens and fireplaces. Behind the nearly 1,000-square-foot pool are water features and a gas fire pit. A wrap-around driveway leads to two garages containing five car bays or a workshop.
Who will like this property? “This one-of-a-kind home will appeal to those who appreciate exceptional design and prefer high-quality materials,” Krug told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “Buyers will love this home if they are looking for proximity to amenities like grocery stores, restaurants and the airport, and want extended space.”
The home is the largest for sale in Happy Valley, based on a search of recent tax records via the Regional Multiple Listing Service (RMLS) website and Redfin’s online marketplace.
