A Connecticut mansion from “And So It Goes” lists for $8.5 million

The famous house from the 2014 hit movie And so it is It officially hit the market for $8.495 million. Now, those with deep pockets and willing to spend can own a little piece of history in this upscale area.

Directed by Rob Reiner and starring actors Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, the film is a charming romantic comedy that follows an unlikely love story. In the film, Fairfield County real estate agent Orrin Little, played by Douglas, hopes to sell his fictional house once before he retires. The film dramatically depicts the house, which you’ll likely recognize after taking a look inside, as it shows it to potential buyers. Keaton plays Leah Hartman, Little’s neighbor and love interest (spoiler alert).

While the actual sale unfortunately comes without Douglas and Keaton as your neighbors, it does provide an amazing opportunity to own a rare 1930s Colonial-style home in Greenwich, Connecticut, one of the wealthiest cities in the country. This ivy-covered English-style country house was built in 1930 by famous 19th-century architects J. Alden and Quentin Twachtman, known as the Twachtman Brothers, and renovated in 2000. They are the sons of the famous American painter John Henry Twachtman.

This picture-perfect residence has a spacious garden, lush landscaping and a host of all the amenities you could want. It’s also located on one of the most exclusive streets in all of Greenwich. The sprawling 7,691-square-foot mansion has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms and sits on a 3.82-acre lot. As you enter, you will be greeted by a grand spiral staircase and checkered wooden floors. Although modernly renovated for today’s buyer, the structure of the home is reminiscent of the architectural period in which it was built. Each room also has elegant wallpaper that evokes a bygone era. In fact, much of the house looks the same or similar to what was depicted in the movie.

There are several reception rooms with ample seating and log fires, a wood-paneled office, a bright living room and a formal dining room with patterned wallpaper and another log fire. The kitchen has also been enhanced with state-of-the-art appliances, a large marble dining island, sleek cabinetry and plenty of space for avid chefs. There is also a less formal dining area off the kitchen.

The spacious bedrooms are also filled with natural light thanks to oversized windows, as are the bathrooms. There is traditional décor, but bright colors appear in the wallpaper of many rooms. Outside there is a pool house, an original pool and a clay tennis court. The perfect home for raising a family, you have almost all of the country club-like amenities on the property.

The house is also surrounded by towering chestnut trees for added shade and privacy. The property is listed by Joy Kim Metalios of Houlihan Lawrence.

Greenwich is located on what is considered America’s “Gold Coast” and attracts Wall Street CEOs, celebrities, and billionaires with its safe, luxurious lifestyle. There is an air of exclusivity, amazing private schools, sought-after country clubs, restaurants and shopping centers that attract high-net-worth residents.
