A British tourist complains that ‘too many Spaniards’ ruined her holiday in Benidorm
Freda Jackson said she “cried” at the end of her two-week trip to the popular holiday destination, and said Spaniards should go elsewhere for their holidays.
A BRITISH woman has claimed she burst into tears at the end of her two-week holiday in Benidorm, after the Spaniards “rudely” ruined the trip. Freda Jackson jetted off to the popular holiday destination of Alicante, Spain, to soak up the sun in spring 2017, but she insisted her entire holiday was made miserable by other sun worshipers who “got on her nerves”.
The grandmother, who suffers from mobility issues, said her accommodation was crowded with local holidaymakers who almost ran over her on one occasion. She also criticized the hotel for being “focused on Spaniards and catering to their needs”, because she believes they should “go somewhere else” for their holidays.
“The hotel was full of Spanish holidaymakers and they really got on our nerves because they were very rude,” Frida, a retired care assistant, said, speaking in 2018. “One evening, a Spanish man almost knocked me over and left without me hearing anything.” “Even an apology. The entertainment at the hotel was focused and dedicated to Spaniards – why can’t Spaniards go somewhere else for their holidays?”
The pensioner had booked to stay at the Poseidon Playa Hotel, on the outskirts of Benidorm, with a friend in April 2017. She said the hotel had been recommended by travel company Thomas Cook, but despite her request for flatland access, it was located on flat ground. slope instead.
Frida and her friend paid £1,133 for the holiday and are demanding a full refund or a free trip after describing their holiday as a “disaster from start to finish”. The grandmother-of-six added: “I’ve never complained about a holiday before – but this holiday was a disaster from start to finish. My boyfriend and I paid for it from our pensions and it’s been difficult trying to finance it for 12 years.” Months and completely ruined the holiday – I cried afterwards.
“We wanted to go somewhere on flat ground and not in the hills because we have mobility problems. On top of that, as soon as we got to the reception, they told us that we were placed on the 14th floor, and fortunately we were moved to the second floor.” And it was 42 steps down to the hotel pool.”
The woman submitted a letter of complaint to Thomas Cook who initially offered her and her friend a £75 holiday voucher as compensation, but after Freda rejected the offer, the travel company made an improved offer of £566 to be split between Freda and her friend. .
In the week after Frida’s story broke, she exclusively told The Mirror that she had been wrongly portrayed as a “racist”, insisting her comments had been “taken out of context”. She claimed she never said Spanish tourists should go elsewhere, but instead only complained that the hotel “did not cater to the English”.
She said: “It’s all a bunch of lies. I never said that Spaniards should go to another hotel, just that the hotel doesn’t cater to English people. It’s been completely taken out of context. Now people who don’t even know are calling me a racist, which incorrect. “I did not attack the Spaniards at all.”
